Beautiful Butterflies, Series 1 – May 31st

I went to the Butterfly House and made some friends. This little one decided it liked my shoulder and my bag.

This beautiful one is called a Red Spotted Purple.

Have a blessed day!

To The Sun From A Flower – May 30th

It was a beautiful day here, up until the point that the heavens opened up. Now we are inundated with water, and flash flood warnings have been issued. I did at least get to enjoy taking some lovely photos before the rain came though. They are truly doing some lovely things in the Masters Garden.

A little poem for a rainy evening here in Southwest Missouri.

From Belgium:
To The Sun From A Flower by Guido Gezelle
translated by Jethro Bithell

O Sun, when I stand in my green leaves,
With my petals full of dew,
And you fare forth in your splendor,
My blossoming heart looks to you.

When, on the red dawn throning,
The world at your feet you view,
Forget not the little flower
That waits and watches for you.

It’s always so much fun to sit and enjoy a good book of poetry, especially one filled with such good poems. The current book is Favorite Poems Old And New selected by Helen Ferris, published in 1957 and bought at the Library sales for $1! I do so love a good bargain.

I think my next read will be Pilgrim’s Progress by John Bunyan. I do so love the classics of literature. Just the way they are written is so much different then modern literature.

Have a blessed evening!

House Guest – May 29th

Allow me to introduce my house guess:

Her name is Esther, and she is very sleepy. She is also apparently likes to come up with her own yoga poses! She is very sweet and cuddly and friendly; but I suspect she has ulterior motives and knows I am a dog person. I think she is trying to make me move to the dark side and get my own cat, I still don’t see that happening though.

She brought her favorite toy with her. For some reason this toy elicits meows and all form of noise from her. She will jump up in the air and go hide under something and the come bounding out. She then will plop down on the ground and hand onto this toy with one claw, man she is strong for being only about 6 pounds. And if you don’t play with her. She carries it around with her from one side of the house to the next. And will sit by it and stare at you until you play with her. Very persistent! It’s going to be an interesting couple of days!

Busy Bee – May 29th

Good Morning from lovely Southwest Missouri! We have reached that time of the year where the days are sunny and blue with fluffy white clouds. But there is always a chance for thunderstorms. I can’t complain too much, I love this time of year.

I feel like I could do a series on bees and butterflies. Bees today, especially since this one decided to pose so nicely.

Have a blessed day!

Little Talk – May 28th

Little Talk by Aileen Fisher

Don’t you think it’s probable
that beetles, bugs, and bees
talk about a lot of things –
you know, such things as these:

The kind of weather where they live
in jungles tall with grass
and earthquakes in their villages
whenever people pass!

Of course, we’ll never know if bugs
talk very much at all,
because our ears are far too big
for talk that is so small.

This little guy was full of pollen that he was just sitting there on the ground. He was quite photogenic because of it.

The First Lillies – May 28th

The very first lillies of the Day Lily garden have started to bloom. Beautiful and bright yellow. I can’t wait until they are all bloomed. Lillies are my favorite flowers. I love the way they have such a sweet smell. I remember last year was the first year I went to the botanical gardens. I was so excited to see that this beautiful garden had such lovely gardens and they were filled with Lillies!

This is just the beginning! I can’t wait until they are blooming in ever color imaginable!
Have a blessed afternoon!

Peonies, A Series #5 – May 27th

The peony garden is now in full bloom. So many huge blooms and bright colors. I loved walking among the blooms and hear the buzzing bees and the chirping birds. Mostly I enjoyed having the warmth of the sun on my face.

I hope that wherever you are you are getting to enjoy the season, whatever that may be.

Have a blessed day!
