Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield – February 1st

Today’s New Thing was to go to Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield. It has a 5 mile trail around the battlefield with tons of stops to hear about what happened there.

They have a visitors center with a museum where you can read all about the battle that took place here.

My favorite part was to just go and walk around in the woods and here the birds and see all the historical markers. If you are ever in the area and want to visit you can find information here.

It was a very moody day here, foggy and rainy. But overall a very enjoyable experience and one I think I will have to repeat because it was just so quiet out there. I am really looking forward to the next new thing. I have been planning out my month and coming up with ideas. I’m excited to try some new things, even things that are out of my comfort zone. It will be worth it in the end, a growing experience. I think sometimes I get in this comfortable rut and never really experience life. I want to actually experience life and not just let it fly by in a blur.

Have a blessed day!

The Views Are For Free – January 23rd

The last couple of mornings and evenings have been cold but the views have been glorious. I like to call them technicolor clouds. I have to thank God for them because it really is how I connect with Him. I snapped this shot while I was filling my gas tank, and I was struck with how beautiful it was. It reminds me that I sometimes feel like each beautiful thing I see in nature is like a bear hug from God. It’s like he is saying look at what I have done, isn’t it gorgeous, and remember that you are so much more beautiful and important to me. What a wondrous thought that He cares so much. Even when life is hard, I have to think He is all that much closer to you when you are in the midst of the valley.

On a completely unrelated topic I saw the most beautiful picture of peace in the midst of the protests in the Ukraine. You can see it here. What a image to see this priest standing in between the protesters and the security forces. I just can’t get over it. It’s very true that blessed are the peacemakers.

Have a blessed day!

Before The Storm – January 8th

Really wanting to go back and take a photo of this place now, it is probably covered in snow, took this the day before we got more. What a beautiful place to walk among the trees and nature and just listen. I do so enjoy the peace and quiet of nature, although it really isn’t quiet when you are in nature. It is alive and active, full of sounds. Birds and rushing water and my footsteps in the snow. So much sound but so peaceful all at the same time.

Have a blessed day!

Fleeting Moments – January 7th

I just love this photo, I captured it on Sunday when my city was a ghost town. Everyone was huddled up in their warm houses, but I was standing on a bridge having extremely cold air blow my hair in my face. It was so beautiful when the sun broke through the clouds for a few fleeting moments and made all the snow glitter, even the flakes in the air. Dancing pieces of glitter. Glorious, I tell, just glorious. I could have stood there for hours.

Have a blessed evening!

Baby It’s Cold Outside – January 6th

Baby, it’s cold outside! So cold and so windy. You know I would have thought I would have missed out on this when I moved from Chicago, but nope. I am now so thankful for the garage I have because I didn’t have to shovel my car out. I seriously wish I lived in the Southern Hemisphere right now, at least it’s warm there. I have a really good friend who lives in South Africa and we were exchanging photos of our Christmas’ and they were having a braai or BBQ and I was so jealous! Oh well, maybe someday I will get to live somewhere warmer, without snow. Then again maybe not…

Stay safe and warm out there!

Have a blessed day!

The Weather Calls For Warm Boots – January 4th

Our weather of late has called for warm boots, but at least they are pretty. I have several pairs, all very useful when my goal for the next year is to grow my photography skills. So today was spent exploring in the woods near my house. The sounds of rushing water, wind through bare trees and the call of a eagle. So many colorful birds to, blue birds, cardinals and wood peckers. Fluttering about, calling to their mates. What a beautiful thing. Tomorrow more exploring, in the snow. This too is a beautiful thing…

Have a blessed day!

Weekly Photo Challenge – Beginning

What a Beautiful Beginning!

This weeks Weekly Photo Challenge is Beginning! And we had a beautiful beginning this morning.
You can find the Weekly Photo Challenge here.

The windows were letting in a beautiful golden glow this morning. Loved it! I love that feeling of a golden glow coming in my windows in the morning, helps me to wake up. And I think it is even more golden because we have snow on the group here.

Have a blessed day!
